11 SUPER PRACTICAL TIPS before and during a TRADE SHOW

Team Antoni Explains

As we return to a new normal after the pandemic, trade shows are back!
To work at an exhibition is demanding, both physically and mentally. If your body and brain don’t have enough energy, you really can’t perform well. Here are some super practical tips to assist you before and during a trade show.

Here are some practical tips to help you:

1. PRACTICE STANDING UP

If you have a job at a desk, your feet are in for a shock if you don’t start standing at work, in the run-up to the show. Start a few weeks in advance. Stand and walk around more than you usually do.

2. TAKE A BREAK

Make sure to take a break every couple of hours. You need to rest both your legs and your head. The optimal setup would be to have an agreed schedule you can follow. If you don’t have one, it is, of course, important that you check in with your colleagues before leaving the booth.

3. RECHARGE your batteries during your breaks

Do not wander around the trade show, visiting other booths. Leave the exhibition hall and recharge with what you need at the time: food, drink, a comfortable chair, fresh air…

4. WERE COMFORTABLE SHOES

After a few hours, a pair of shoes can pinch. A new pair to change into could be a good idea. Make sure to break in new shoes before the exhibition.

5. CHANGE SOCKS

We sweat approximately 4 cl a day per foot. If you change socks it will feel better. There are also compression socks that help with blood circulation.

6. BREATH – the right way

In pressured situations, our breathing accelerates and we do not fill our lungs to their maximum capacity. That makes us even more stressed out. Breathe slower to feel better.

7. TAKE CARE OF YOUR VOICE

Try to lower your pitch, and talk with the support of your stomach, instead of pressing your vocal cords. That way you will not strain your system so badly and you will have a deeper and more confidence-inspiring voice.

8. Hydration for Optimal Performance

DRINK WATER Even if the room is cool and you don’t sweat a lot, the air is usually very dry in the big, air-conditioned halls. Get in the habit of taking a sip of water between conversations. Your breath will also stay fresher and it will help your vocal cords.

9. WATCH WHAT YOU EAT

Remember that a shift in a booth is as tough as any other physical workout. You need to stock up on energy. Remember to eat a proper breakfast – things that are filling, but not indigestible. Eat fruit and snacks occasionally, but avoid sweets that get your blood sugar levels going.

10. Preparing for Competition

HOLD BACK ON ALCOHOL the night before. Do not party hard at night. Think of it as competing in sports the day after. How would you prepare yourself then?

11. HAVE FUN

Be in a good mood. Give each other a high five, hand out compliments, laugh, and feel good.

Later this year, publishing firm Austin Macauley will release my book Speed Selling, a book for those of you who want to generate high-quality leads in a booth. These tips will be included ^_^
