What do rock stars and speakers have in common?
This week I am one of about 40,000 people who attend Sweden Rock Festival. Bands like Megadeth, Volbeat, 10cc, Accept, D.A.D and Guns’nRoses will be there, but also less known bands among the 90 acts over four days.
I am utterly impressed by these hard working and skilled musicians – and I am not even a fan of heavy metal.
So what do speakers and rock stars have in common apart from being on the physical stage? The ability to make the audience feel. To move their state of mind. By words, rhythms, connections. I can only aspire to to come close to some of these artists greatness.
I never became a pop star even though I learned four chords on my guitar some 35 years ago. But for short bursts of time, I can almost pretend. And added to that, with rock bands, I seldom listen to the meaning of the song. As a speaker I know that my words are my most important tool. And of course, how I carry those words through the air or through copper and fiber into your brain and hearts.

Rock stars and speakers need to exude confidence when performing in front of a crowd. They need to be comfortable with themselves and their material in order to convey their message effectively. Whether it’s singing a song or giving a speech, confidence is key.
Preparation:
Both rock stars and speakers need to prepare extensively before a performance. A rock star needs to practice their songs and make sure their instruments are in tune. Similarly, a speaker needs to prepare their speech and make sure they have all the necessary materials. Both professions require a lot of preparation in order to give a successful performance.
Audience interaction:
Both rock stars and speakers need to interact with their audience in order to create a connection. A rock star may interact with their fans by talking to them in between songs, while a speaker may interact with their audience by asking questions or engaging in a Q&A session. Both professions require the ability to connect with an audience and create a memorable experience.
Stage presence:
Rock stars and speakers both need to have a strong stage presence. They need to command attention and create a powerful presence on stage. Whether it’s through their music or their words, they need to make an impact on their audience.
