Ask – when you present

“Do you remember when…?”

One of my best advice when it comes to speaking is to ask questions. This will immediately trigger people to respond (we are raised to answer when someone asks us something). It can also put them inside the memory where they re-live whatever you evoked.

Sometimes you want the audience to actually answer. In a digital format this is often easy. Use the chat function.

But sometimes you don’t want them to say anything. You use your question as a way to build rapport, or as a cliff hanger to your next point you want to make. If you add a pause before stating your argument it will create a nice tension. When you answer, people will get a rush of dopamine in their brain.

So the next time you are presenting, make sure you ask a few questions.

Best of luck to you!
